Study Groups
Study groups (also called interest groups) are small groups of Guild members who share a common interest in some facet of weaving or spinning. Involvement in an interest group helps new members to get better acquainted while learning more about the subject. Seasoned members enjoy interest groups as a way to expand their knowledge and deepen their friendships within the Guild.
Contact the leader of the group for more details (see member directory for contact information).
Fourth Monday Spinners
We gather to spin, discuss various fibers and assist new spinners. We discuss current projects and some of us apply our spun fiber to weaving. We place the new spinner between experienced spinners and assist in getting them started in a relax atmosphere. Sometimes it really does take a village. We always meet on the fourth Monday. Currently we meet at Harry Griffen Park. 10am to 1pm. Leader: Marianna Castellaw
Focus Fiber Study Group
The Focus Fiber Group is a gathering of Guild members who wish to share what they are working on with each other, and ask questions about what they are working on or planning. At each meeting one member will make a short presentation on something that interests them, or that they are good at. The meetings are scheduled for about two hours, but may end sooner. Meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm via Zoom. Leader: Liz Jones
Sewing Interest Group
This is a small, informal group open to any guild member interested in sewing garments, bags, etc. using handwoven fabric. We meet in a member’s home, to share our sewing projects and help each other to come up with future projects or troubleshoot current issues. We usually don’t have an agenda beyond that, although sometimes one member might share a technique such as making buttonholes, or altering the placement of darts. Meetings are on a Sunday at 2 pm, please consult the calendar page for exact dates. Leader: Susan Van Winkle
Tapestry Interest Group
This is an informal group of usually 6 to 8 members who discuss topics related to tapestry weaving, share our current projects, and plan studies of various techniques. We share information about tapestry and help other members deal with problems and questions. Some members have elaborate tapestry looms and others work on simple frame or pipe looms. Meetings are typically the 4th Sunday of each month at 1 pm via Zoom.
Weaving Structure Group
The Weaving Structure Group is composed of individuals who wish to delve deeply into the issue of drafting and weave structures. We are currently going through the book "Designing and Drafting for Handweavers" by Berta Frey, as well as discussing additional resources. Members can choose their level of involvement: just sit in and discuss, do all the drafting problems on paper or by computer, or do the problems as well as weave the suggested samples. In general the group meets the fourth Friday of the month at 2 pm in a blended format of Zoom plus in person. Leader: Liz Jones
