Learn to Read Weaving Drafts
Scheduled Dates: May 17, 2025
Instructor: Liz Jones
Time: 10 am to 3 pm
Fee: $90 members, $100 nonmembers
Location: Om Center 7951 University Ave, La Mesa, CA
Have you ever looked at a weaving draft and not known what it was trying to tell you? Have you tried to warp from a draft and not had it look like what you expected or was upside down? Do you get confused by all those repeats in parenthesis or what to do when it says “to balance”?
This workshop is a basic introduction to reading a draft and understanding what it is telling you. We will look at a draft in relation to a loom so you can visually see what it is telling you. We will also look at transposing a tie-up to a lift plan so that if you are working on a table loom with a draft written for a floor loom you will understand what to do (and the reverse). If you want, after the basic introduction, we will look at drafts you bring in that you’ve wanted to weave, but just have not understood.
Instructor: Liz Jones
Liz has been weaving off and on since the mid-1970s. She has taught basic drafting and loves fabric structure. Making the loom do the many things it can do is a pleasure for her. She creates draft the way other people play computer games!
