Master Weaver Program Overview
Next Date: TBD
Instructors: Mary Saxton and Susan Van Winkle
Time: 10 am - 3 pm
Location:
Fee: Free
This is a free workshop open to all members to learn about the requirements for achieving three levels of weaving expertise: Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master Weaver. It is for those who are thinking of starting the program, as well as for those who are advancing to the next level.
The Master Weaver Program helps you to expand your weaving skills in an orderly progression of projects. It is designed to encourage you to increase your knowledge of weaving and provide you the basis for an ongoing exploration into weave structures, color, and design.
The program is a self-paced, directed weaving plan. Each of the three levels, Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master Weaver, requires a specific number of items to be woven. Each level provides the opportunity to tackle increasingly advanced weave structures. By the third level, Master Weaver, you will be able to design your own cloth.
Record keeping, finishing techniques, suitability of yarn choices, and technical expertise are all skills you will learn along your journey to Master Weaver. Mary Saxton and Susan Van Winkle will have samples of items woven for Apprentice, Journeyman and Master and record sheets associated with each item. In addition, we’ll have copies of the registration sheet for you to sign up right then, and a copy of the Record Sheet for you to take home. We will show you copies of the recommended reference books, such as Black’s New Key to Weaving, etc.
For more details about each level's requirements, visit the Master Weaver page.
