Cotton Spinning

Fee: $90 members, $100 nonmembers
Learn the basics of spinning cotton on a supported spindle in this workshop. Cotton is a short fiber so some extra tricks are needed to create sound yarn for weaving and knitting. With basic skills learned during the workshop, you will be able to expand into spinning cotton on a treadle and flyer wheel if you desire. Subjects covered will include a brief overview of how to process raw cotton using hand cards, varieties of colored cotton, and resources for cotton sliver. The materials fee includes cotton sliver. You will have the opportunity to use a charkha (spindle wheel) in class.
Level: Intermediate. The student should know how to use a spindle and be able to draft fibers.
Materials fee: $10 payable to the instruction by check or cash.
